There’s no doubt that as we age, so does our skin and our skin’s needs are constantly changing. Every line on our face tells a story and it’s not a story we want to erase! Inspired by the new L’oreal Age Perfect Golden Age range for mature skin, two of our editors share their experiences with healthy skin, ageing and the importance of role models at every age.

What is the best beauty advice you’ve ever received? Never use hot water on my face and never go to bed without cleansing my skin and applying moisturiser.

What do you love most about your age?

I’ve learnt to be comfortable in my own skin and that gives me greater freedom to be myself.

Do you believe that beauty is on the inside? There is no doubt in my mind that the better you feel on the inside (about yourself and life) the more beautiful and radiant you look on the outside.

Does what you eat influence your skin? When I eat mostly fresh, nourishing food my skin looks and feels be er. If I don’t eat well my skin can start to become blotchy and dull.

Who has influenced your health and beauty journey?

My mother always applied moisturiser to her face so she was my inspiration. Growing up in Tasmania, where the air is really dry, my skin always felt thirsty so at 16 I went exploring and never looked back. Now, as a mature woman and a Beauty Editor I think society desperately needs to see more older women as role models. Younger women need to be encouraged to embrace, not dread the ageing process. Thanks to L’oreal we have Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren. They’re both inspirational, but not just because they look great, it’s as much about their attitudes to ageing and mature beauty.

What does L’oreal Paris’ mantra ‘because you’re worth it’ mean to you? This reminds me that I deserve to feel beautiful. All women do. Lots of women still feel guilty about taking time out for themselves and they need to be encouraged to believe they’re worth it, at every age.

What is your must have L’oreal Paris Age Perfect product? The Age Perfect Golden Age Cooling, Rosy Cream feels refreshing and deliciously hydrating on my skin. I love the rosy colour too.

What beauty advice would you give your younger self? Wear a hat when out in the sun and use sunscreen.

What would you change about your skincare if you could rewind 30 years? Avoid hot showers as they may cause capillaries to surface (guilty as charged)! And to follow a nightly beauty routine.

What is great about ageing in today’s society? I love the fact that you can wear your age with pride to quote Eartha Ki , ‘Aging has a wonderful beauty’.

Who has influenced your health and beauty journey? My mother had the most beautiful skin smooth and flawless, wrinkles were pre y much non-existent, even well into her fi ies. I would have loved to see her in her sixties and seventies. Her skin-care routine was as simple as mine is today cleanse, tone, moisturise.i guess you could say, I’ve modelled myself on her.

What has changed in the last ten years of your personal beauty journey? I am more diligent in my beauty routine than ever and I notice the difference it makes to how I look

if I’m noticing, then others are too.

What do you do more or less of beauty and health-wise? I drink a lot more water than ever before. As I didn’t drink water at all, my skin was always dehydrated. Also, being desk bound, I find it beneficial to go for walks to help boost my Vitamin D levels.

Use three words to describe being you at this age? Confident, independent, happy.

What does L’oreal Paris’ mantra ‘because you’re worth it’ mean to you? Too o en we spend time catering to everyone else’s needs and we put ourselves down the priority list. We need to take time to indulge ourselves as much as we indulge others and to take as much care of ourselves as we do of others.
