BOX A FEATURE PALM
A golden cane palm makes a great feature in a corner. Protect its base and make it stand out more by boxing it.
Gather your supplies
• 200 x 50mm x 2.4m treated pine sleepers
• 100mm baen screws
You’ll also need
Tape measure; pencil; circular saw; drill; spirit level
Here’s how
STEP 1 Measure the lengths of sleepers to fit the area around the palm. Mark with a pencil and cut with a circular saw.
STEP 2 Join 3 sleepers together at 90° angles to make 3 sides of the box. Make bu joints and screw together with 100mm baen screws. Manoeuvre behind palm.
STEP 3 Join fourth side with 100mm baen screws and make this layer level.
STEP 4 Make a corner using 2 sleepers and manoeuvre behind palm to put on top of boom sleepers. Make another corner with 2 more sleepers, place on top of boom sleepers and join with the other corner behind the palm.
STEP 5 Cut 4 baens out of a treated pine sleeper to the height of the box and screw one to frame on each inside corner to reinforce the joint.
