Gather your supplies

• Acrylic paint, primer

• New flooring

• Kaboodle cabinets, raw door/drawer panels and kickboards to suit

• Hanging rods

• Hinges and runners

• Shelves

• Pullout baskets

You’ll also need Utility knife; drop sheets; painting gear; tape measure; carpenter’s pencil; drill; screwdriver; spirit level

Here’s how

STEP 1 Use a utility knife to cut carpet and remove. Lay drop sheets to protect the subfloor.

STEP 2 Clean, prepare and paint walls and trim. Lay new flooring.

STEP 3 Measure your wall, then calculate the number of cabinets needed, including drawer units.

STEP 4 Assemble cabinets, put in position and join through sides with screws, adjusting the feet and checking for level as you go.

STEP 5 Prime and paint raw door panels and kickboards with a roller. Leave to dry.

STEP 6 Prime and paint raw drawer panels with a paintbrush. Leave to dry.

STEP 7 Cut and install kickboards. Secure hanging rods inside cabinets and fix drawer runners.

STEP 8 Attach hinges to cabinets, then hang doors. Insert shelves and baskets.

Don’t hide feature windows behind drapes. Go for the clean lines of Roman blinds instead.
