EASY STEPS TO YOUR PADDED BEDHEAD

-

Gather your supplies

• 12mm MDF

• Wadding

• 50mm foam

• Velvet fabric

• Backing fabric

• 89 x 19mm and 64 x 18mm dressed pine

• Undercoat and paint

You’ll also need Painter’s tape; circular saw; scissors; spray adhesive; staple gun; nail gun; wood filler; sandpaper; painting equipment; PVA glue; drill; screws; fixings for wall type

Here’s how

STEP 1 Mark bedhead outline on wall with painter’s tape. Cut MDF to size for bedhead backing panel with circular saw.

STEP 2 Cut wadding and foam to fit backing panel. A€ach with spray adhesive.

STEP 3 Cut velour fabric 200mm bigger all around than panel. Lay fabric right side down and centre padded panel on top.

STEP 4 Pull fabric up and over panel and secure with staples; hold taut as you go and fold over at corners.

STEP 5 Cut backing fabric to fit and staple to panel back.

STEP 6 Create surround for bedhead by bu€ing lengths of 89 x 16mm timber into 64 x 19mm timber and nailing to form 3 L shapes.

STEP 7 Cut these to make an inverted U-shaped surround going from skirting to top of bedhead. Allow for 18mm shadowline around padded board.

STEP 8 Mitre joins in corners. Fill nail holes with wood filler, sand smooth, undercoat, then apply 2 coats of paint.

STEP 9 Sit frame pieces on workbench then sit panel on top. Glue and nail frame together in corners.

STEP 10 Position panel so there’s an 18mm shadowline to inside of frame, then hang off the bench and screw up through frame into panel to secure.

STEP 11 Position bedhead against wall and screw through the parts of frame that extend to the skirting into the wall to secure.
