HAMPTONS style

-

It doesn’t matter if you live in the city, country or by the sea, you can bring the Hamptons into your home. Inspired by the luxury holiday houses in New York’s Long Island, this upmarket coastal chic look will bring vibrant energy to any space. Known for its iconic blue and white colour scheme, it’s actually the natural elements that form the basis for this look. Start with pale floorboards and jute rugs underfoot, then timber and rattan furniture, with linen upholstery and plump cushions. The ocean is referenced in accessories such as coral, driftwood and glass, while porcelain pieces also play a part. If you think fresh, generous and relaxed, you’ll get this look down pat.

Floorboards – either light timbered or whitewashed – are part of the look, but neutral carpet or tiles will work too, as long as you lay a jute rug such as this navy-striped beauty to set the nautical scene. If you can’t find one, make your own using painter’s tape to mask it off and acrylic spray paint!

When it comes to cushion covers you can’t go past ticking, a navy-and-white stripe fabric once used to cover ma resses, and over-scale florals on a white background to keep the look bright. Add a solid block colour to stop it being too feminine and for uniformity.
