Children love picking off these entrancing li le flowers and sucking out the sweet nectar – adults can do this, too, but leave some for the birds and bu erflies. There are many varieties you can choose, but avoid Japanese honeysuckle as it can get weedy. Opt, instead, for this pre y, rambling, semi-evergreen American woodbine (Lonicera x americana) for its whirls of fragrant, multi-hued flowers – they begin with a pink or purple blush, open white then mellow to yellow. It loves partial shade in temperate and cool areas and happily clambers over fences.
