EASY STEPS TO YOUR PLANT STAND

-

Gather your supplies

• 42 x 42mm x 2.4m dressed pine

• Furniture wax

You’ll also need Mitre saw; clamps; drill; 10mm and long 4mm drill bits; PVA glue; 75mm screws; rag; timber filler; random orbital sander; lint-free cloth

Here’s how

STEP 1 Use a mitre saw to cut pine into four 1.2m long legs, and eight 30cm long rails. STEP 2 On a timber offcut, make a jig to drill holes. Make 2 horizontal holes 20mm from end and 20mm apart, and 2 vertical holes 10mm from end and 20mm apart. Drill holes with a 10mm bit.

STEP 3 Clamp jig to leg, flush with the end and drill 10mm-deep holes. Use a depth stop on your drill bit.

STEP 4 Turn to adjacent side and use jig to drill holes through other end of the jig.

STEP 5 Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to drill holes at other end of leg, then again to drill holes in all legs. Keep track of adjacent side you drill through so you get 2 righthand and 2 le“-hand legs.

STEP 6 Spread PVA on ends of a rail and place between the ends of legs and clamp. Predrill through holes in legs into rail using a long 4mm bit.

STEP 7 Screw through legs into rails using 75mm screws. Wipe off excess glue with a damp rag.

STEP 8 Repeat Steps 6 and 7 to a–ach a rail to other end of legs, then to join other legs together to make 2 leg assemblies.

STEP 9 Apply PVA to ends of remaining rails, position on one leg assembly, then sit other leg assembly on top. Clamp, predrill and screw.

STEP 10 Apply timber filler to all screws holes. Let dry.

STEP 11 Sand filler flush with surface using a random orbital sander. Remove dust.

STEP 12 Apply furniture wax with a cloth.
