What do you get when you cross three wild primulas? Do it o en enough and you get modern polyanthus, one of the most amazing ranges of winter colour-up annuals imaginable. As a perennial, but generally grown as an annual, a few polyanthus seedlings bought cheaply in bloomer pots from a nursery are all it takes to add colour and interest when li le else is about. For best results, water regularly, deadhead and treat fortnightly with liquid fertiliser.
