EASY STEPS TO YOUR DOOR HANDLES

-

Complete the look with timber door handles that are perfectly matched to other elements of your revamp.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Set your circular saw to cut 8mm deep and the fence attachment so the blade will run down the centre of the timber. Cut timber, then turn over and repeat. Make sure fence runs along the same side of the timber as the first cut.

STEP 2 Use scrap ply to make a circle cutting jig for trimmer and attach trimmer holder to it. Make radius holes 55 and 70mm from centre of bit for 2 handle sizes, here smaller for cab doors and larger for pantry cab. Nail through holes into cut made in timber.

STEP 3 Insert trimmer into holder and rotate anti-clockwise to cut circles for handles. Start by cutting about 4mm deep, then

make multiple passes, cu ing a li le deeper each time, to cut all the way through timber.

STEP 4 Use sander to remove cu ing marks from edge and slightly round the corners.

STEP 5 Clamp disc to bench and use a sharp handsaw to cut the disc into 2 semi-circles. Sand along this cut to make smooth.

STEP 6 Cut timber to make 19 x 19mm mounting blocks for the handle. Make blocks 25mm shorter than diameter of semi-circles, and cut ends on a 45 splay. Spread glue on blocks and set on back of semi-circles a few millimetres from the straight edge. Let glue dry. STEP 7 Apply 2 coats of clear varnish to the handles. Allow to dry and sand lightly between coats.

STEP 8 Drill 4.5mm clearance holes in cabinet doors for screws. Make holes 15mm from the edge of the door and 17mm on either side of the centre of the handle on the door. Hold handles in position and screw to door using bu on head screws.
