• 30 x 30mm x 2.4m dressed pine (4)

• Porter’s Paints wallpaper

• 2440 x 1220 x 3mm MDF

• LED ba ery lights (4)

• 600 x 200 x 8mm glass shelf (4)

Components

Legs 42 x 30 x 2300mm dressed pine (2)

Shelf sides 30 x 30 x 130mm pine (10)

Shelf ends 30 x 30 x 602mm pine (10)

Back rails 42 x 30 x 1700mm pine (2)

Back panel 1670 x 630 x 3mm MDF

Top panel 570 x 160 x 3mm MDF

You’ll also need Combination square; straightedge; circular saw; trimmer fi ed with a chamfer bit; PVA glue; 50mm nails; nail gun; wood filler; sander; undercoat; semi gloss enamel in Dulux Daintree; painting gear; 5mm plastic spacers; drill; countersinking drill bit; 60mm brass screws; 20mm nails; self adhesive Velcro strips; 25 x 25mm angled brackets (4)

Here’s how

STEP 1 At one end of each leg, on the 42mm wide face, use a combination square to mark a point 12mm from one side where taper will start.

STEP 2 From the same ends and sides you worked from in Step 1, mark a point on the timber 600mm from the ends. Use a straightedge to draw a line from the point at the end to this point on the edge of the legs. This is the line of your taper.

STEP 3 Using a circular saw, cut along the line of the tapers.

STEP 4 Use a trimmer fi ed with a chamfer bit to cut an angled detail on the corners at the bo om of the legs. Make the chamfer start

60mm and finish 540mm from the end of the legs.

STEP 5 Using PVA glue and 50mm nails, glue and nail pairs of shelf ends and shelf sides together to make shelf frames. Use trimmer to put a chamfer on 1 long edge of the shelf which starts and finishes 60mm from the ends. This will be the front bo om edge of the shelf.

STEP 6 Fill nail holes in shelves using wood filler. Let dry, then sand shelves and legs to smooth timber and remove cu ing marks.

STEP 7 Undercoat then apply 2 coats of paint to all components. Let dry and sand lightly a er each coat.

STEP 8 Lightly mark out legs for shelves. Make first shelf at the top of the taper with

another flush with the top of the legs. Space others evenly between these.

STEP 9 Sit legs on edge on the bench with the taper facing up. Hold shelf against 1 leg, si ing it on 5mm plastic spacers. Make sure the chamfered edge on shelf is at the front on the bo om. As the screws will be visible, measure for screws to go through centre of leg into shelf. Predrill using a countersinking drill bit, then screw together using 60mm brass screws. Repeat to a ach all shelves to this leg, then to a ach other leg to other end of shelves.

STEP 10 Predrill and screw back rails to sides of shelf. Make the rails flush with the rears of the shelves.

STEP 11 A ach wallpaper to back panel following product instructions. Sit panel on back of shelves with wallpapered side facing inwards. Nail through back

panel into shelves and back rails using 20mm nails, then nail top panel in place.

STEP 12 A ach LED light bars to inside front edge of all shelves, except top one, using adhesive Velcro strips.

STEP 13 Install shelving unit in position against the wall. Secure to wall using 2 angled brackets on both top and bo om. Make sure screws through brackets go into wall studs.

STEP 14 Install glass shelves on shelf frames.
