How to punch needle

-

THREAD IT

Trace or draw design on wrong side of cloth. Secure section to be punched in an embroidery hoop, ensuring cloth is taut. Thread punch needle with yarn. Working from wrong side of cloth, push needle through it up to the handle and pull back out, keeping the tip as close to the cloth as possible.

PUNCH IT UP Outline designs first, then fill in by working in rows or circles. Repeat as needed to fill the design. Stitch frequency depends on the yarn thickness, but punching each or every other hole in the grid weave of the monk’s cloth is best.

FACE TIME Check face side of project frequently to ensure stitches are staying put and there are no bare spots. To finish the project or switch colours, clip the yarn and pull the cut end through to the front side of the project and tie.

LOOSE ENDS

To tidy your finished design, trim yarn and tuck stray loops in place. An iron on steam se ing or a fabric steamer helps remove wrinkles and smooth edges.
