FRINGE BENEFITS

Light up your room with a boho take on a traditional drum shade.

-

Roll the drum shade across monk’s cloth, marking the length and height, add 1.5cm to all sides, then cut cloth. Transfer the punch-needle design (see opposite page) onto wrong side of cloth, then secure in an embroidery hoop. Needle punch straight rows, as noted. For tassels, pull 7.5cm of each punched loop through cloth and hold as you punch the next loop. Tuft lines by trimming loops with scissors after punching. Using double-sided tape, make a 1.5cm hem at one vertical edge. Attach raw vertical edge of punched cloth to seam of lampshade. Bring punched cloth around the shade, overlapping and securing ends with tape. Using hot glue, secure top and bottom edges to rim inside shade. To neaten, glue ribbon over raw edges.
