Measuremen­ts

Sizes XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL), finished back length 11 (14, 18, 22, 26, 30)cm (see standard neck/chest measuremen­ts).

Gather your supplies Panda Magnum 8ply 100g

1 (1, 1, 1, 2, 2) balls Colour 1 (C1) shade 1068 (Silver), 1 ball Colour 2 (C2) shade 316 (Grey Blend); 1 pair each 3.25mm and 4mm kni ing needles or size needed to give correct tension; piece of cardboard (or pom pom maker, see page 179); wool needle for sewing seams

NOTE If length is altered, yarn quantity may need to be adjusted.

Tension

22sts and 30 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4mm needles. To work a tension square, using 4mm needles, cast on 33 sts. Work 44 rows stocking st. Cast off loosely. Check your tension carefully (see page 179). If less sts to 10cm use smaller needles, if more sts use larger needles.

Back

Using 3.25mm needles and C1, cast on 27 (35-41-5163-77) sts.

1st row K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Rep last 2 rows 2 (3-3-4-5-6) times... 6 (8-8-10-12-14) rows rib in total. Change to 4mm needles. Work 2 rows stocking st.

Beg short row shaping

NOTE When pa ern specifies turn – proceed as folls to avoid holes in your work: take yarn under needle and onto other side of work, slip next st onto right-hand needle, take yarn back under needle and into original position, then turn and proceed as instructed in Turning short rows (see page 179).

NOTE This design may be lengthened by working more rows here (and work correspond­ing extra rows on the Front before leg openings), however, do not extend it further than the end of the dog’s rib cage.

Beg leg openings

Cast off 2 (2-4-5-6-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows… 23 (31-33-41-51-63) sts. Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row 3 (5-3-4-5-8) times, then in every foll 4th row 1 (1-2-3-5-7) times… 13 (17-21-25-29-31) sts. Work 1 row.

Shape back neck

1st row K4 (4-5-5-5-5), cast off next 5 (9-11-15-19-21) sts and knit to end.

Cont on these 4 (4-5-5-5-5) sts for le side of back neck.

Dec one st at neck edge in next 2 rows, then in foll alt row 0 (0-1-1-1-1) times…

2 sts.

Next row P2tog, fasten off. With wrong side facing, join C1 to rem 4 (4-5-5-5-5) sts for right side of back neck, P2tog, then purl to end. Dec one st at neck edge in next row, then in foll alt row 0 (0-1-1-1-1) times…

2 sts.

Next row P2tog, fasten off.

Front

Using 3.25mm needles and C1, cast on 27 (35-41-5163-77) sts.

Work 6 (8-8-10-12-14) rows rib as for Back. Change to 4mm needles. Work 10 (12-22-24-24-16) rows stocking st.

Beg leg openings

Cast off 2 (2-4-5-6-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows… 23 (31-33-41-51-63) sts. Dec one st at each end of next 3 (5-5-5-7-9) rows, then in every foll alt row 3 (3-2-4-5-8) times… 11 (15-19-23-27-29) sts. Work 9 (13-17-21-29

Shape neck

1st row K4 (4-6-6-6-6), cast off next 3 (7-7-1115-17) sts, knit to end. Cont on last 4 (4-6-66-6) sts for right side of front neck.

Dec one st at neck edge in next 2 (2-4-4-4-4) rows… 2 sts.

Next row P2tog, fasten off. With wrong side facing, join C1 to rem 4 (4-6-66-6) sts for le side of neck, P2tog, then purl to end… 3 (3-5-5-5-5) sts. Dec one st at neck edge in next 1 (1-3-3-3-3) rows… 2 sts.

Next row P2tog, fasten off.

Right sleeve

Using 3.25mm needles and C2, cast on 23 (25-2937-45-57) sts.

Work 6 (8-8-10-12-14) rows rib as for Back. Change to 4mm needles. Work 4 (4-8-8-12-20) rows stocking st.

Beg shaping

Cast off 2 (2-4-5-6-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows… 19 (21-21-27-33-43) sts. Dec one st at each end of next row.**

Dec one st at end (Front edge) of next row, then at same edge in next 1 (1-11-3-3) rows, then in every foll alt row 4 (4-2-1-2-3) times, AT SAME TIME dec one st at end (Back edge) of every foll 4th row 3 (1-1-1-0-0) times, then in every foll 6th row 0 (2-2-3-5-8) times… 8 (10-12-18-20-26) sts. Work 3 (3-5-5-7-3) rows.

1st row K6 (8-10-16-18-24), turn.

Left sleeve

Work as for Right Sleeve to **.

cast on 13 (18-23-3236-42) sts loosely. Work 6 rows stocking st. Inc one st at end of next row, then in every foll 6th row 2 (2-2-3-4-4) times… 16 (21-26-36-41-47) sts. Work 9 (17-23-25-2955) rows.

Shape top

Dec one st at beg of next row, then in foll 4th row once, then in every foll alt row 2 (3-2-3-3-3) times, then at same edge in next 0 (0-2-2-2-2) rows... 12 (16-20-29-34-40) sts. Cast off 4 (6-8-3-4-6) sts at beg of next row.

Dec one st at end of next row.

Sizes L, XL and XXL only Cast off (8-10-11) sts at beg of next row.

Dec one st at end of next row.

Cast off loosely.

Hood band

Using Ma ress stitch (see page 179), join shaped side edges of hood. With right side facing, using 3.25mm needles and C1, knit up 30 (36-42-50-58-78) sts evenly along straight edge of hood to top seam, then knit up 29 (35-41-49-57-77) sts evenly to end... 59 (71-83-99-115-155) sts. Work 5 (7-7-9-11-13) rows rib as for Back, beg with a 2nd row.

Cast off loosely in rib.

Pocket

Using 4mm needles and C2, cast on 19 (27-33-4145-49) sts.

Work 6 (10-10-1416-20) rows stocking st. Beg shaping

1st row K2, P1, K1, P1, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to last 7 sts, K2tog, P1, K1, P1, K2… 17 (2531-39-43-47) sts.

2nd row P2, K1, P1, K1, purl to last 5 sts, K1, P1, K1, P2. Rep last 2 rows until 13 (1519-25-27-27) sts rem. Cast off in pa .

To make up

Join raglan seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew hood evenly in position to neck edge with cast-off edges meeting at centre front and leaving a 2cm gap at centre back for a leash opening. Work Bu onhole stitch (see page 179) evenly around leash opening to reinforce if desired. Sew on pocket to centre of Back above turnings, leaving shaped side edges open.

Pom pom

Using C2 and 2 card circles, each with a 10cm dia. and 4cm centre hole, make a pom pom (see page 179). Sew to top of hood at beg of shaping.

DOG SCARF

Gather your supplies Heirloom Dazzle 8ply 100g 1 ball each of Colour 1 (C1) shade 6293 (Carrot), Colour 2 (C2) shade 6269 (Crocus); 4mm kni ing needles; wool needle for sewing seam

Tension

31 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over rib (relaxed), using 4mm needles. Correct tension is not essential for this project.

NOTE Carry the yarn not in use loosely along side edge of work.

Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 15 sts loosely.

1st row K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows form rib. Using C2, rep last 2 rows.

Cont in rib, working stripes of 2 rows each C1 and C2 until Scarf is approx. 30 (40-50-7080-92)cm from beg (or length desired to wrap twice around neck), ending with a C2 stripe. Cast off in rib.

To make up

Using a Flat seam (see page 179) join cast-off end to cast-on end. Sew in ends.
