EASY STEPS TO YOUR CUBBY AWNING

-

Dress up your cubby window with an easy awning. Simply cover plywood in blue-andwhite-striped fabric to match the nautical theme.

Gather your supplies

• Plywood

• Primer

• White exterior paint

• Timber brackets

• Striped outdoor fabric

You’ll also need Tape measure; saw; painting equipment; pencil; drill; screws; scissors; staple gun

For you to note

It’s important to use outdoor fabric for this project, as it is made to be weather resistant. Find suppliers online or check out Spotlight.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Measure window frame width and bracket arms to determine size of the awning, then cut from plywood with a saw. Apply primer and 2 coats of paint to plywood and brackets, le…ing dry a†er each coat.

STEP 2 Mark the corresponding bracket arm holes on plywood face, then drill through plywood into brackets to secure with screws.

STEP 3 Cut fabric at least 20mm wider all around than awning. Lay fabric right side down and centre awning on top.

STEP 4 Fold fabric long sides in half, then take over awning edge and staple in place every 10mm. Fold short sides in half, then staple to awning as before, tucking in the corners and trimming fabric as needed.

STEP 5 Position awning over the cubbyhouse window frame. It should fit snugly but you can secure it with screws.
