EASY STEPS TO MIRROR FRAME

-

Upgrade a plain mirror, and hide any ugly de-silvering happening around the edges, with a simple yet chic timber frame.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Glue lengths of 30 and 40mm of oak together so difference in size between them creates a rebate. Clamp to hold pieces together and leave glue to dry for 6 hours.

STEP 2 Measure and mark lengths of frame that are 20mm larger than the dimensions of your mirror. Mark ends on a 45 angle to create mitred corners.

STEP 3 Use mitre box and handsaw to cut to length. Sand edges of frame pieces.

STEP 4 Spread glue on ends, bring frame pieces together, then clamp to your work bench to hold them. Predrill across mitre with 2mm drill bit and join using 50mm nails. Check diagonals to make frame square, then leave glue to dry for 24 hours.

STEP 5 Apply a coat of stain to front and edges of frame. Leave to dry.

STEP 6 Run a bead of silicone around back of the frame and li‹ in position so frame sits on mirror. Sit on blocks cut to fit between vanity and frame and use masking tape to hold at top. Leave to dry.
