For a top spring garden year a er year, don’t sign off in winter, here’s what to do.

• Check for broken branches a er gales, as wounds can become infected. Clean them up with a downwards cut with a saw or secateurs so they aren’t exposed to more rainwater,

• Check puddles a er heavy rain – where they hang around it means you have a drainage problem. Dig in organic matter to improve drainage.

• Prune dormant trees and shrubs.

• Review your winter garden and think of what you can plant in spring to make it prettier next winter and spring.
