Gather your supplies
• 2440 x 1220 x 6mm MDF (2)
• 2400 x 1200 x 9mm plywood (3)
• 64 x 19mm x 3m dressed pine
• Primer
• White paint
• Super Fresco Easy Wallpaper
• Angle tile trim
You’ll also need Circular saw; PVA glue; drill; 30mm screws; painting gear; black marker; wallpaper paste; paste roller; wallpaper smoother; utility knife; hacksaw; mitre box; double-sided tape; construction adhesive; heavy duty plasterboard fixings
Here’s how
STEP 1 Use circular saw to cut three 52 x 150cm MDF panels. Cut plywood into three 82 x 210cm panels for the hanging boards.
STEP 2 With saw set to cut on a 45 angle, cut pine down the centre along its length, then into 50mm long blocks to create split baens. Spread glue on 2 baens and place them on back of 1 hanging board towards top and boom. Make angled cut boom of baen and facing board.
STEP 3 Predrill and screw
baens to board using 30mm screws. Repeat for all hanging boards.
STEP 4 Apply primer and 2 coats of white paint to the front of the hanging boards, leaving to dry aer each coat. Use a black marker to colour edges of the boards.
STEP 5 Cut three 170cm long drops of wallpaper. Apply wallpaper paste to the MDF panels with paste roller, then lay wallpaper on panels flush with one edge and overhanging the other.
STEP 6 Use a wallpaper smoother to remove any air bubbles.
STEP 7 Trim away excess wallpaper with utility knife.
Leave the paste to dry.
STEP 8 Use a hacksaw and mitre box to cut angle trim to fit sides and ends of wallpaper panels. Mitre joins in corners. Aach double-sided tape to back of each length. Aach angle trim to wallpaper panels.
STEP 9 Apply blobs of construction adhesive to hanging board where wallpaper panels will sit. Place panels on top so they are centred and press into glue. Leave to dry.
STEP 10 Set out positions of split baens on walls so they interlock with those on the hanging boards to suit their desired position. Predrill, glue and screw baens to wall, making sure you go into at least one wall stud per baen. Also use heavy-duty plasterboard fixings.
