EASY STEPS TO YOUR DINING TRAY

Build a simple box frame to line with a mirror for a tray that showcases the table and light above, and ties together the wall mirrors and sideboard.

Gather your supplies

• 1220 x 2440 x 6mm plywood

• 1200 x 350 x 5mm flat-edge mirror

• 30 x 12mm pine

• Primer

• Black acrylic gloss paint

You’ll also need Circular saw; PVA glue; counter-sinking drill bit; drill; 30mm timber screws; acrylic gap filler; paintbrushes; sandpaper; paint trays and rollers; mirror adhesive; mirror tape; utility knife, selfadhesive felt circles

Here’s how

STEP 1 Using a circular saw, cut plywood panel to size of mirror plus 26mm extra on the length and width. Cut pine to make 2 sides and 2 ends to match size of ply base. Cut pine on an angle for mitred joins in corners.

STEP 2 Spread glue along edges of side pieces of pine and sit plywood base on top. Make sure pine is flush with edges of plywood.

STEP 3 Using a counter-sinking drill bit, predrill through the plywood into the pine. Screw together using 30mm screws.

STEP 4 Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to aach end pieces to plywood. Make sure joins in corners are tight.

STEP 5 Turn tray over and use gap filler to fill any gaps in corners and where pine meets ply on outside.

STEP 6 Sand tray to ensure timber is smooth, then use a paintbrush to apply primer to top and inside edges of box frame.

STEP 7 Use a roller to apply primer to box base and outside edges. Let dry.

STEP 8 Apply 2 coats of paint to box, leaving to dry a†er each coat.

STEP 9 Run several beads of mirror adhesive on back of mirror. Aach strips of mirror tape, extending centre strip by 10cm either side. Lower mirror into tray holding extra tape, then trim extra tape with utility knife. Let adhesive dry. Adhere felt circles under tray base.
