START INVESTING IN ART

No need to fork out big bucks, here’s how to start your collection

-

VISIT GALLERIES

This is the fun part! Visit as many galleries as you can to get a sense of what styles and mediums you love. Travel far and wide. Take notes, get catalogues and sign up to as many gallery email lists as possible to get regular updates on upcoming exhibitions.

BEGIN WITH ANY BUDGET

A limited budget need not limit your collection. Emilya Colliver, the founder and director of Art Pharmacy, says you can decide how often you want to add to your collection and maybe even create an ‘art budget’ to set aside investing money.

TAKE CARE OF IT

Your art is an investment. So make sure the work is signed, talk to your insurance company about insuring it and keep the receipt. If it’s not already done, have the work framed professionally and hung out of the way of toddlers with textas, and direct sunlight.
