FAN GIFT WRAP

Gather your supplies • General supplies, as needed

Here’s how

STEP 1 Determine size of wrapping paper required by placing gi box on paper vertically. Allow sufficient width to go around box with an overlap. Paper length should be 3 times the length of the gi box (or thereabouts) plus extra for bo om closure and about 25cm extra for pleating.

STEP 2 Score 1.5cm-wide or 2cm-wide lines across top two-thirds of paper plus the extra 25cm. Do not score the gi box or bo om closure sections.

STEP 3 Add a couple of lengths of doublesided tape on long side of pleated end of paper. Using double-sided tape for a neat and secure finish, begin to wrap gi as you would normally, closing bo om end but leaving the end to be pleated open (but do secure overlap with the double-sided tape you first stuck down).

STEP 4 Create a crisp front and back edge by running your finger along gi edge. With your fingers resting at top of gi ,

use both hands to pinch paper with thumb and index finger at each side. This should create a paper triangle which juts out from each side. Smooth open end of paper down to create crisp edges that are ready to pleat.

STEP 5 Starting at open end, begin to fold paper back and forth, accordion style, until you reach the top of the gi .

STEP 6 Decorate gi with ribbon, taking it around centre of pleats.

STEP 7 Bring together and secure each half of fan with double-sided tape in the centre.
