Gather your supplies

• Slimline cabinet

• 2200 x 600 x 25mm rubberwood panel

• Rattan cane webbing

• 65 x 18mm x 2.4m dressed pine (3)

• 9.5mm x 1.2m pine dowel

• 20 x 8mm x 2.4m Tasmanian oak cover strap moulding (3)

You’ll also need Circular saw; sander; rags; white interior paint; bucket; painting gear; furniture wax; clamps; drill; 3mm bit; 20 and 40mm screws; mitre saw; pocket hole jig kit; PVA glue; flush cut saw; 35mm Forstner bit; concealed cabinet hinges; screwdriver; scissors; staple gun and staples mitred joins in corners.

STEP 5 To reinforce corners of door frames, use pocket hole jig and drill bits from kit to drill pocket holes along angled cut on top and bottom pieces of all frames.

STEP 6 Spread glue along angled cuts of frames, bring together and clamp. Use 32mm screws from pocket hole kit to join timbers together through pocket holes. Leave to dry.

STEP 7 Use mitre saw to cut short lengths of 9.5mm dowel and glue into pocket holes to fill. Let dry then cut off excess flush with frame using a flush cut saw.

STEP 8 Mark for hinge holes on doors using hinge positions on old doors as a guide. Cut holes for hinges using a 35mm Forstner bit, then screw hinges in place.

STEP 9 Cut cane webbing to cover centre of door frames and staple to frame on inside of each door. Cover edges with oak cover strap moulding screwed over the cane, using 20mm screws.

DIY TIP

If the cane insets in your doors get a knock and become saggy, sponge the cane with water then leave it in the sun to dry. As the water evaporates, the cane will shrink and tighten.

STEP 10 Attach hinges on doors to hinge blocks inside cabinet. Adjust hinges so doors sit evenly.
