EASY STEPS TO YOUR VERTICAL HERB GARDEN

Creating a vertical herb garden is easy with offthe-shelf products that, once installed in a sunny spot, simply require regular watering.

Gather your supplies

• Framed mesh screen

• 2 metal hooks or suitable wall fixings

• Plastic planters

• Quality vegetable and herb po ing mix

• Herb seeds or seedlings

• Metal pot rings to fit planters

• Choose hooks or fixings appropriat­e for hanging or a aching the mesh screen to your wall.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Using hooks or other fixings, a ach mesh screen to a wall that will give your plants sun all day.

STEP 2 Fill pots with po ing mix and sow seeds or plant seedlings. You can put several plants in the same pot if their water needs are compatible (see Herbs that live together, above right).

STEP 3 A ach pot rings to mesh, allowing enough space between them for air to circulate around plants.

STEP 4 Position pots in rings, making sure they sit securely and won’t fall out.

STEP 5 Water your herbs according to packet or label instructio­ns, and more o en in extended hot periods.
