SECRETS TO A FUR-FREE HOME

-

You love your furry friend, but dealing with their fur and dander all over your home can be painful! Plus, their shedding often gets worse when your dog’s coat prepares for warm weather or the cold depths of winter. However, there’s no need to keep a lint roller up your sleeve or chase balls of fur up and down the hallway. Here, we uncover the secrets to keeping your home free of fur!

• Keep your dog clean and regularly well-groomed (for instance, by using a slicker brush) to help reduce the amount of hair they shed. A professional pet groomer can also help to get rid of all unwanted hair.

• If your dog suffers from allergies, make sure he’s being treated with appropriate allergy medication. This can help keep shedding under control.

• Consider keeping certain areas of your home, such as the kitchen, your bed or couch, out of paw or drool reach.

• If you’ve lost the bed war with your pet pooch, use washable covers to protect your bed or sofa.

• Maintain a regular house-cleaning schedule, including dusting and vacuuming. Change air filters frequently and use a damp mop or dust mop to remove dog hairs from your flooring.

• Try using a damp rubber glove to remove hairs from the furniture. It’s easy – simply wet the glove, rub it over sofas and chairs until you see the hair sticking to the glove, and then rinse and repeat, as required.

• When buying new furniture, opt for non-fabric material, such as leather, which makes it much easier to just brush or wipe the hair off (just be careful your cat doesn’t scratch it!).

• Consider matching your carpet to the colour of your pet’s hair. Now, that’s clever! ■
