EASY STEPS TO YOUR CLOCK AND MEMO BOARDS

-

Gather your supplies

• Foamcore board

• 12mm cork sheet

• Low-sheen acrylic sample pots in white and 2 toning shades of aqua and turquoise blue

• Clock movement compatible with the thickness of your cork (optional)

• Adhesive hanging strips

You’ll also need

Pencil; scissors or stanley knife; metal ruler; painter’s tape; paint stirrer; paintbrush

For you to note

Before you start You will need to have a hexagon template. Look online for a hexagon pattern you can download, then photocopy it to the required size of your clock or memo board. Stick the photocopy to the foamcore board and cut out your hexagon template.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Using the foamcore template, trace desired number of hexagons across the cork sheet, positioning them side by side.

STEP 2 Cut out hexagon shapes with scissors or stanley knife and ruler. Make clean and precise cuts for neatness, and also because hexagons may share a common line between them.

STEP 3 Referring to the image as a guide, mask off geometric sections on your hexagons.

STEP 4 Referring to the image as a guide, and working with 1 colour at a time, apply 2 coats of paint to masked sections, leaving to dry after each coat.

STEP 5 Once paint is dry, remove masking tape. When painting adjacent sections, you’ll need to reposition tape to allow for a small, even gap between colours.

STEP 6 Poke a hole in the centre of 1 hexagon and install clock mechanism as per instructions from the manufacturer. Hang your clock and/or memo boards on wall with adhesive strips.
