EASY STEPS TO REVAMP YOUR ROOM
Breathe new life into an outdated space with a paint job, flooring update and a hack for extra power without wiring.
Gather your supplies
• Acrylic interior paint in white, neutral and charcoal
• Pre-primed architrave
• Water-based acrylic enamel paint in white
• Laminate flooring in chevron pattern
You’ll also need Tape measure; painting gear; painter’s tape; electric extension cord; cable pins; hammer; nail gun; saw; timber filler; sandpaper
For you to note
We used Porter’s Paints Eggshell Acrylic on the walls and Aqua Satin on the trim.
Here’s how
STEP 1 Apply white acrylic to walls, from cornice to 1m down, using a roller. Let dry.
STEP 2 Mask off walls with painter’s tape about 600mm down from ceiling.
STEP 3 Apply neutral paint to walls below tape. This two-tone effect will create the look of a picture rail without adding mouldings to walls. Remove tape while paint is still tacky. Let dry.
STEP 4 With a roller, paint a feature wall, here a chimney breast, in charcoal. Let dry.
STEP 5 To bring power to a spot without a wall outlet, run electric extension cord around a door frame and hold in place with cable pins.
STEP 6 Cut architraves to length with mitred ends for corners. Nail to door frame to hide cord. Fill nail holes; sand. Paint trim in enamel.
STEP 7 Remove carpet and lay laminate flooring planks.
