EASY STEPS TO MAKE YOUR WALLHANGING

-

Turn a stunning length of fabric into a wallhanging with timber moulding and chain – no sewing required!

Gather your supplies

• Fabric for wallhanging

• 30 x 12mm x 2.4m Tasmanian oak half round moulding

• Interior timber stain in walnut

You’ll also need Tape measure; pencil; mitre box and saw; sandpaper; paintbrush; self-adhesive magnetic strip; sharp scissors; drill; 1.9mm drill bit; 23mm brass screw eyes; 8mm chain; combination pliers; wall hook

Here’s how

STEP 1 Measure width of fabric to mark then cut moulding to length for 2 base rails. For top rails, cut

2 more pieces 60mm longer with ends on a 45° angle using a mitre box and saw.

STEP 2 Sand cut edges to smooth. Lightly sand rails. Apply 2 coats of stain to all sides of rails using a paintbrush. Leave to dry after each coat.

STEP 3 Cut 2 lengths of magnetic strip 20mm shorter than base rails. Remove backing tape from strips.

STEP 4 Attach strips to base rails, centring them on timber and using your finger to press down as you go. Cut 2 strips to the same length as top rails with angled ends and attach.

STEP 5 Measure 40mm from ends of top rails and use 1.9mm bit to drill pilot holes in top edge for screw eyes.

STEP 6 Insert screw eyes in pilot holes in rail top edge

and twist to secure.

STEP 7 Cut chain to length for a hanger. Attach chain ends to screw eyes.

STEP 8 Use pliers to close chain ends.

STEP 9 Lay a top and base rail magnetic-strip-side-up and put fabric on top, right side up. Position matching rails on top so magnets can grab through the fabric.

STEP 10 Suspend hanging by chain using a suitable hook for your wall type.
