EASY STEPS TO YOUR FEATURE TV WALL

-

Attach lining panels to the wall and paint black to create a backdrop so your TV recedes when not in use. This can be done on any wall or a part-wall, as here.

For you to note

Check with your electrician if they will need to rough in the cables for the TV before you install the panels.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Locate position of timber studs in the wall with stud finder and use masking tape to mark their position on the floor and on the wall above the height of the panels. Check corner of wall for plumb and skirting for level. If they aren’t, you’ll have to cut the panel to suit so grooves in it are plumb.

STEP 2 Measure from the top of your skirting to your desired height, here, the top of the adjacent opening, to determine how long your Laminex panels need to be. Also take into account any adjustments required from Step 1. Use circular saw to cut panel to size, clamping a straightedge to panel to act as a guide for your saw. Also cut off the groove on 1 edge of the panel so you have a square edge at the corner.

STEP 3 Check panel for fit and, when you’re happy, apply dabs of construction adhesive to the wall. Lift the panel into position and press against the wall. Nail through the panel into the wall studs with the nail gun, spacing the nails about 300mm apart.

STEP 4 Measure the remaining wall and cut a strip of panel to suit. Make sure this piece has the

groove on it to slot into the tongue at the edge of the panel on the wall. Glue and nail in place.

STEP 5 Fill nail holes with wood putty, let dry and sand smooth. Spot-prime filled areas with undercoat. When dry, apply 2 coats of interior paint to panels, leaving to dry after each coat.

STEP 6 Attach TV bracket to the wall to suit your TV. Screw the bracket into the wall studs. Have your electrician run cables in the wall so they are hidden behind the TV. Mount

TV on the bracket and connect cables.
