Gather your supplies

• Interior acrylic paint in yellow and black

• 235 x 19mm x 1.2m DAR pine (7)

• 184 x 19mm x 1.2m DAR pine

You’ll also need Painter’s tape; dropsheet; paintbrush; paint rollers and trays; saw; undercoat; pencil; clamps; jigsaw; square; timber strip; nail; sandpaper; drill; countersinking drill bit; PVA glue; 30mm timber screws; timber filler

For you to note

Use a grey-tinted undercoat for dark topcoats.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Mask off wall area with painter’s tape.

STEP 2 Lay dropsheet and cut in masked area with a paintbrush.

STEP 3 Apply 2 coats of yellow paint to the wall using a roller, leaving to dry after each coat.

STEP 4 For leg panels, cut six 235mm timber boards to 900mm long, using a saw.

STEP 5 Apply undercoat to both sides of leg panels and all edges, using a roller. Leave to dry.

STEP 6 Position end of 184mm pine board flush with top and side edge of a leg panel and trace around it in pencil to mark a 184mm notch. Repeat to mark notches on all 6 legs. STEP 7 Clamp each leg to workbench and cut notches using jigsaw.

STEP 8 Undercoat remaining 235mm and 184mm pine boards and leave to dry. Lay side by side. Use square to draw a line

19mm in from each end across both boards. Then, at 200mm intervals, mark double lines 19mm apart across both boards to divide boards into 5 sections. STEP 9 Mark timber strip at 100mm, then centre and nail at mark to first section on 184mm marked timber board, and use pencil to draw a semicircle. Repeat for remaining 4 sections to mark 5 semicircles.

STEP 10 Clamp cutout front panel to workbench and cut out semicircles with

jigsaw. Sand cut edges.

STEP 11 Lay out legs, notches facing up and spaced 200mm apart. Position top panel against legs, matching marked lines to notches. On top panel, drill 2 countersunk holes for each leg, 30mm from top and 20mm from base edge.

STEP 12 Apply a bead of PVA glue to marked areas on underside of top, position against legs then join with 30mm screws.

STEP 13 Position front panel on leg notches, then

drill 1 countersunk hole 20mm up from base for each leg notch.

STEP 14 Apply a bead of PVA glue to each notch, sit front panel in place and screw into leg notches with 30mm screws.

STEP 15 Fill all screw holes with timber filler. Leave to dry, then sand smooth.

STEP 16 Apply 2 coats of black paint to console table with a brush and roller; let dry a er each coat.
