EASY STEPS TO A DOG BED AND SIDE TABLE

Safety notes

When operating power tools, wear safety glasses, earmuffs, mask, and tie hair back. When appropriate, wear gloves and protective clothing.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Measure length, width and height of your dog bed, adjust components list (below left) to suit. Your dog should be able to stand, sit and lay within the space.

STEP 2 Measure, mark and cut all components with tape measure, combination square, pencil and track saw.

STEP 3 To make circular hole in Window, find centre of Window by drawing bisecting diagonal lines from panel corners. Measure, mark and cut thin piece of scrap timber to 250mm length. Mark centre of scrap timber (125mm), hammer nail onto mark and into centre of Window. Put pencil on end of scrap timber and spin to trace circle onto Window. Repeat for second Window.

STEP 4 Drill a 5mm hole inside circle on Window. Insert jigsaw blade into hole, then cut out circle. Repeat for second Window.

STEP 5 Clamp Back to workbench. Apply bead of PVA glue along short edge of Back, then attach Window flush with a butt joint. With countersink drill bit, predrill 2 equally spaced holes through edge of Window and into Back. Insert 50mm screws and tighten with drill. Repeat for second Window.

STEP 6 To attach Top, lay assembly onto side, then apply PVA glue along top edges of Windows and Back. Attach Top. Predrill 7 equally spaced holes along edge of Top and into Windows and Back. Insert 50mm screws and tighten. Flip and repeat to attach Base.

STEP 7 With scraper, apply filler to all drill holes and allow to dry. Sand all surfaces and sawn edges with 80-grit sandpaper. Wipe away dust.

STEP 8 With nap roller, apply paint to Top outer surface. Immediately wipe away paint excess so grain is visible. Repeat on all outer surfaces and allow to dry.

STEP 9 Flip and lay Top flat. Attach all feet to Base so offset by 10mm on all outer corners. Predrill 2 equally spaced holes, insert 30mm screws, tighten. Flip bed upright and apply clear coat to all surfaces. Allow to dry.

STEP 10 Insert dog bed.
