Self-confidence building tools

-

Start by doing what you’re comfortable with, but don’t be afraid to stretch yourself as it’s a great way to learn and grow. What feels right now, will change and evolve along the way, so keep aiming higher.

1 Focus on the positives

Congratulate yourself when you say no to something that doesn’t feel right for you. Don’t compare yourself to others, remember everyone is different. Accept compliments when they’re given. Acknowledge yourself for your accomplishments, big and small. When you hear negative selftalk turn it around, for example, ‘I am lovable, I am worthy, I can do this’.

2 Look after number one

Focus on meeting your own needs and wants. Ask ‘what do I need and want right now and what can I do about it?’ Do what brings you joy and then let it spill over to those near and dear. Take care of your wellbeing mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Spend time in nature, feel the life force that flows through everything, including you.

3 Be kind to yourself

Smile at yourself when you look in the mirror. When you feel good in what you’re wearing, own it. Remember what other people think is their business. Do things that make you feel good on the inside as often as possible, for example, it could be a hobby, dancing freestyle, singing at the top of your voice, writing in your journal, or sitting quietly with a cup of tea.

4 Choose your friends

Spend time with people who get you, who take the time to listen and support you. Let anyone who puts you down exit your life. Be your own cheerleader. Step out of your comfort zone with the attitude of ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained’. Join a social group with similar interests. If you need professional help, go online and see what’s

freely available.
