Wheels turn slowly

NATIONAL Heavy Vehicle Regulator officers are assessing information provided by Blenners Transport in relation to the tragedy near Mareeba.

The information was requested in the days after the crash and the company had been cooperative in responding to those requests, the NHVR said.

The NHVR’s inquiries relate to chain of responsibility requirements under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and are in addition to Queensland Police Service Forensic Crash Unit investigations, which are continuing.

However, the TWU, which after the incident called for a raft of investigations, wasn’t happy with the rate of progress on inquiries.

“This issue shows an absolute failing when it comes to investigating incidents such as this and the extent to which there is disarray when it comes to tackling safety in transport,” national secretary Michael Kaine said.
