WHILE still at the Caltex at Epping, another DeBruyn’s truck rolled in, this one driven by Fred McKay from Perth.
He was driving a 2013 535Hp Mack Granite at the time and towing a load of fertiliser from Hobart back to the yard, and then planning to knock off for the day as it was show day in Launceston and hence a public holiday in the north of the state.
“Well, I have been here for about seven years now,” he said.
“And I would have to say they have looked after me and are a good crowd to work for/with. I worked my way up from doing local in a little van to doing longer trips in semi-trailers, and I really enjoy getting out on the road and ‘stretching my legs’ a bit.
“This Mack is normally driven by Steven Watts, but he’s on holidays just now. I usually drive a Volvo and while they are great trucks, I am really enjoying driving the Granite.”
We asked how he spent his time off, and he told us: “I’m a bit of a sports fan, so I enjoy a good game of lawn bowls, but after that it’s cricket or football in season. Oh, and did I say I like old cars?”
