Iain Lockyear

FRIENDLY truckie Iain Lockyear was ready to transport new coathangers from Townsville down south when I saw him on October 26.

Aged 53 – although he doesn’t look anywhere near that old – Iain had recently started work for Brisbane-based CNQ Freight and was driving a Western Star.

“I brought up general freight from Brisbane and have been a truckie for a lot of the past 35 years,” he said.

“Between 2005 and ’17 I had a job at a mine near Kalgoorlie in WA,” he said.

When he manages to get time off, Iain enjoys motorbike riding and fishing around Donnybrook north of Brisbane.

“I have caught flathead and bream,” he said.

Iain said while new rest areas were starting to appear, more catering for trucks were required.

“I found the Bruce Highway south of Townsville on the way up to be rough in parts,” he said.

He still uses a standard logbook and has no doubt he will learn more about COR in the near future.
