Marty Booth

IT IS always a pleasure to run into our old mate, the very hardworking and professional owner driver Marty Booth from Gretna, and so it was the other day when he wheeled into the Caltex Roadhouse at Epping Forest for a quick bite to eat and a hot cuppa.

He was driving his always eye-catching Tasmanian Transport 2007 Kenworth SAR II with a C-15 500 Cat up front and he was towing his distinctive tri-axle tautliner on his way from Hobart up north to Launceston with a load of timber. He would then return and knock off for the day.

Marty has been in business as an owner-driver now for 19 years or so, and while he admits things are “a bit on the tight side” at the moment, he has been keeping the wheels turning and the bills paid by doing a bit of local with enough trips “up north” to give him some variety.

“It keeps me busy and ‘living the dream’ as they say,” he said.

“I’m always glad to get home to ‘Mum’s cooking’.

“And maintenance and keeping the books up to date takes up most of my time off.”
