MANDATORY use of telematics in Australia is going to be a tough sell, judging by our recent poll on the subject. After the Australian Logistics Council reiterated its call to make the new tech compulsory, we turned to Facebook to get your feedback.

A resounding 83 per cent of the 865 polled said no, with just 17 per cent of you happy to comply.

“All this technology, more rules, regulation and red tape obviously isn’t working – there’s more trucks crashing and running off the road now than ever before: has it occurred to any of these govt bureaucrats that they might be barking up the wrong tree?” wrote Ronnie Paton.

Adds Walter Nepia: “Once again we are talking about after-the-fact technology. Unless there is a super intuitive robot that slaps the driver around when it thinks they’re about to overspeed or overstep set parameters then they can only be used as a tool to review what has already occurred”.
