“WELL I’m only helping out for the day, but this is the truck’s first day out, with only 508km on the clock, and you might say, I am more than a bit happy with it.”

Doug Fraser from Kayena told us this the other day when he rolled in to Mood Food, the Caltex 24 hour Truckstop at Kempton, on his return to Launceston from Hobart.

He had caught our eye when he had rolled in driving an immaculate brand new ReCycal 2018 600 Hp V-8 Scania with a bin on the back.

“Its performance is incredible,” he said.

“Making light work of the hills and handling like a big expensive car. I normally drive a DAF towing tankers all over the state, and a day in this Scania is a welcome change, I can tell you.

“I’ve been on the road for 35 years now, and it’s all been good and no real regrets so far, and it suits my lifestyle, as I have a few acres up on the Tamar for a ‘hobby farm’… but hobby or not, that takes up any spare time I may have.”
