A RECENT trip to Strahan on Tasmania’s west coast was a pleasure as always, especially when you are driving a performance car, and with snow across the high country near Derwent Bridge, happily there were not as many tourists on the road as usual.
But I am always thankful I don’t have to drive a truck on those same windy, often steep, and RV-infested roads.
But Stewart Best from Devonport looked pretty cheerful when we caught up with him the other day doing deliveries at Risby Cove.
He was driving a PFD Isuzu 1000 fridge pan, and had come down from Devonport via Ridgeley and Zeehan, and would then continue on to Tullah and Waratah on his return home.
“I’ve been with PFD on the job for just over 10 years,” he told us, “And I love it. They run the best gear, and are just great people to work for/with.
“I’ve been on the road for quite a while now, including doing some time in Western Australia with Tolls and other outfits, but seriously I love being home in beautiful Tasmania with the family, and life’s all pretty good now.”
Asked about his time off, he said he enjoys walking the dogs and getting down on the beach, and when he has time, touring around Tasmania at leisure and enjoying life in general.
