SERVICE and support for Hino customers across a large area of southern Australia has received a major boost with the opening of an updated and expanded Jacob Hino dealership in Wodonga.

Hino Motor Sales Australia chairman and chief executive officer Steve Lotter, along with Jacob Group of Companies principal Neville Jacob, presided over the cutting of the ribbon and the celebrations that followed, heralding the official opening of the impressive facility on December 3.

Situated with easy access off the busy Hume Highway freight corridor, the dealership is housed on a 3.2ha site, which also houses a number of other Jacob Group businesses that complement the Hino dealership.

The improvements to the facility are the latest step for the Jacob Group, which has been in business for more than 80 years and the regional Hino dealer for almost 30 years.

“The family business started in 1931 and has grown to where it is today,” Mr Jacob said.

“We kicked off with Hino in a little section of our used car yard at Jacob Toyota and moved over to Melrose Dr, where our businesses here are conducive to each other, and to meet our customer demand we needed to upgrade.”

The site also houses Jacob Body and Paint offering a full smash repair and paint service, along with Border Fabrications, which manufactures and engineers truck bodies and trailers. The workshop facility has nine service bays backed up with a 24-hour breakdown service.

The dealership covers a large geographical area that is home to a range of industry from agriculture through to manufacturing, trades and general transport.

“We service an area from Henty right through to Melbourne. It’s a very big area and we have seven technicians here, which will grow in line with our expansion, and we have two service units based here and one in Myrtleford,” Mr Jacob said.

The opening day was also the launch into the local market of the new Hino 500 series “Street Smart” truck, which complements the 300 and 700 series trucks along with the Hino Hybrid and four-wheel-drive range of vehicles.

“The spec level of the new 500 is a state-of-the-art truck. We believe it is ahead of our competitors and we are very proud of what Hino has been able to produce with this truck and we are looking forward to unveiling it,” Mr Jacob said.

Having held the Hino franchise since 1991, the Jacob business has grown along with the wider Albury-Wodonga region, with the Jacob Hino team looking forward to a successful 2019 and Mr Jacob paying tribute to the staff who have helped build the business across the years.

“We are a fourthgeneration business and we also consider our staff as family, so having that strength behind you really enables you to grow and with our expansion we can offer a one-stop shop to our guests in line with their expectations,” he said.

The Jacob Hino dealership can be found at 3 Melrose Dr, Wodonga.
