Within just four decades, Petroliam Nasional Berhad or PETRONAS - has grown from being a Malaysian oil and gas operator to a firm that fuses the sensitivity of a national oil company with the mindset, sophistication and competitiveness of an integrated oil major. PETRONAS technology covers all stages of the oil and gas value chain. These include technologies in the upstream segment like Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), which expands the lifespan of oil fields. Downstream solutions include advancements in the areas of contaminants removal and the development of non-conventional carbon feedstock as future replacement for petroleum-based products. The firm also developed a number of technologies that cross both upstream and downstream activities.

Winning Technologies

PETRONAS prides itself on bringing the findings of high level research to consumers in its fuels and lubricants businesses. Formula One has become the ultimate testing ground, where the same technology and expertise that power the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 Team are used to enhance PETRONAS products for road vehicles. PETRONAS PRIMAX and SYNTIUM offer superior performance and efficiency to motorists. Another noteworthy project is the construction of the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel (www.petronasofficial.com/flng) located off the coast of Sarawak. FLNG facilities enable the liquefaction, production and offloading of LNG to be carried out hundreds of kilometres offshore above gas fields.

Sufficient Energy Supply

The above technologies are mere examples of the innovation exerted by PETRONAS. Not only do they showcase the firm as a recognised technology owner and solutions provider, they also redefine the energy industry by continuing to create value through its fully integrated business approach.
