In times like these when the weather stops us from throwing a line in safely, I could be really pretentious and preach about how this is the ideal time to clean out the tackle bag and get your gear ready for when you can once again hit the water.
While this is, of course, a most awesome suggestion, the reality is most of us have been sitting on the couch watching re-runs of iFish or enjoying some of the Winter Olympics action.
That is unless you are on the Mary Island Fishing Club committee, who are busy getting ready for the club’s first event for this year, a sundowner on Saturday, February 24, with mud crab racing and the official opening and presentation of our club redevelopment to the community of Derby.
There has been a huge amount of work go into this club upgrade and we encourage our Derby community to come and have a look and enjoy a social afternoon. Sara Hennessy is the president of the Mary Island Fishing Club in Derby.
The Mary Island Fishing Club sundowner will hold mud crab races, as filmed by the Our Town crew back in August last year.
