Man faces child sex charges

A Broome man is due to ap­pear in court af­ter be­ing charged with a string of child sex of­fences.

Kim­ber­ley Joint Re­sponse Team de­tec­tives charged a 44-year-old man last week af­ter an in­ves­ti­ga­tion into al­le­ga­tions of child sex abuse and ex­ploita­tion.

It is al­leged he as­saulted and in­de­cently recorded a boy and girl, who were both nine years old at the time of the first of­fence, be­tween Oc­to­ber 2016 and De­cem­ber last year.

Elec­tronic stor­age de­vices were seized af­ter an ex­e­cuted search war­rant on the man’s home. It is al­leged these de­vices be­longed to the man and pre­lim­i­nary as­sess­ment-iden­ti­fied images of child ex­ploita­tion ma­te­rial. The man has been charged with 77 counts of in­de­cent record­ing of a child un­der 13 years, 14 counts of in­de­cent deal­ing of a child un­der 13 years, nine counts of procur­ing a child un­der 13 years to do an in­de­cent act, two counts of per­sis­tent sex­ual con­duct with a child un­der 16 years and one count of sex­ual pen­e­tra­tion of a child un­der 13 years of age. The in­ves­ti­ga­tion con­tin­ues. The man is to ap­pear in Broome Mag­is­trate’s Court on Mon­day.
