Best in business recognised at prestigious chamber gongs
Small businesses have always been at the heart of Derby and their vital role was recognised when the very best were honoured at a recent awards night.
The annual Derby Chamber of Commerce and Industry Small Business Awards were held on May 3 and saw some familiar faces and newcomers praised in front of the community.
Yoga Desire won the start-up business award, with Second Bite Program and Life and Soul Health and Fitness Club joint winners in the community engagement category.
The Aboriginal business prize went to KW Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, and scenic flight operator KAS Helicopters took out the tourism business award.
Ngunga Designs was the winner of the innovation business accolade, with the remote small business award going to Over the Range Tyre and Mechanical Repairs.
Other victors were Skippers Cleaning Service, Gungalla Mackay, Kimberley Pharmacy, Sampey Meats and the Spinifex Hotel.
DCCI vice-president Stewart Milne congratulated all winners and entrants, who persevered through the good and bad times.
“The awards aim to acknowledge the achievements of local businesses in Derby during the year and their efforts in a difficult economic climate,” he said.
“They would not be possible without the support of the Small Business Development Commission and generous sponsors.”
