YAC pro­vid­ing a voice for young peo­ple

Broome’s new Youth Ad­vi­sory Coun­cil has met for the first time.

The Shire is seek­ing to get young peo­ple more in­volved in the fu­ture of our town and ear­lier this year called for nom­i­na­tions for va­can­cies on the YAC for young peo­ple aged 14-24. The YAC met re­cently at Town Beach and dis­cussed a range of top­ics in­clud­ing the Town Beach Project and plans for a na­ture play and youth space, and to­mor­row’s Broome Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion Fes­ti­val where mem­bers will par­tic­i­pate in a com­mu­nity art project. The YAC is one of the ini­tia­tives iden­ti­fied in the Shire of Broome Youth Frame­work that guides the Shire’s in­volve­ment in youth ser­vices. It is de­liv­ered by the Shire with fund­ing sup­port from Rio Tinto thanks to a new three-year part­ner­ship.

The new Broome YAC has met for the first time at Town Beach.
