Two Irish pilots set foot on Australian soil for the first time after stopping in Broome as part of an attempt to circumnavigate the world.
Australia was the 10th country Paul Ryan and Alan McMahon landed in, going straight to Broome from Bali in a 1979 Piper Cherokee Six single engine aircraft.
The pair had originally floated the idea of flying the aircraft around the world while drinking in an Irish pub two years earlier.

After more than 10 years of lobbying, Broome’s long-awaited new aged care facility opened its door to the public.
Bran Nue Dae Care Services became home to 17 residents from Germanus Kent Hostel, as well as 20 residents who had been awaiting admission from around the Kimberley.

Work began on transforming a part of Broome’s pearling past into a showpiece attraction for tourists, visitors and residents.
The $100,000 upgrade of the historic Streeter’s Jetty was recommended as part of the Chinatown Development Strategy adopted by the council earlier in the year following an extensive community consultation.
