The best bartenders in town had their cocktail shakers humming for the 2003 Great Bartenders of Broome competition as part of the year’s Mango Festival.
Nine bartenders from Roebuck Bay Hotel, Divers Tavern, Cable Beach Club Resort, the Old Zoo Cafe, the Mangrove Hotel and Matso’s Cafe and Brewery competed to produce the best cocktail from mango, beer, a Smirnoff Blue and orange.
Tammy Bevan from the Old Zoo Cafe was declared the winner, while Steven Anderson from Cable Beach Club Resort and Michael Mulholland from Matso’s Cafe and Brewery were named runners-up.

Broome’s tourism operators gave Baz Luhrmann’s Australia mostly glowing reviews, praising the film’s depiction of the north of Australia. Tourism operators were invited to the movie’s premiere screening at Sun Pictures as part of the Broome Visitor Centre’s Christmas party.
They were joined by actor Ernie Dingo, who was in Broome filming Bran Nue Dae.

Starstruck teenagers gathered at Father McMahon Oval to watch their sporting idols work through their pre-season paces, as the West Coast Eagles trained.
The Eagles made a whistle-stop three-day trip to the Kimberley as part of a training camp.
