LOST IN HEATHROW

I had the misfortune to lose a bag of property when returning from Bangkok last week. I know it was lost within the car park in T3 at Heathrow and I also take full responsibility.

My experience of the Heathrow lost property system, however, is quite appalling.

On first glance, there appears to be an easy protocol. Just register your loss online, there is a checking facility of items found through what I presume is a third party website, www.missingx.com

I registered the loss and got an email back providing a report number for the insurance company. A few days later, I did see similar items on missingx that had been found. Despite emailing the missingx on two separate occasions, I heard absolutely nothing back.

I tried to call them three times, and the first two attempts resulted in me hanging on for 45 minutes before giving up, while the third attempt was answered after 26 minutes, and when all I got was a very unhelpful person who suggested I email in to report the incident.

Has anyone had a good experience with lost property?

Martyn, I’m not surprised. I lost something a few months back – or rather I forgot to pick it up at the end of the security check. I returned within minutes and was told it had already gone to lost property.

I did get it back but I have never dealt with anyone as rude as the woman there.

At Stansted I left my camera on the train to the satellite building and reported it immediately from the lounge. I was told I couldn’t go back but it had been found and put in lost property. I called when I returned but the office was closed. Called the next day to be told it was waiting collection. Drove down to collect it to be told “We gave it to the owner 20 minutes ago.”

It belies belief that things can be so haphazard... or is it simply dishonesty?

I am not at all surprised by your experience. What surprises me, rather, is that they are allowed to make the claim “making every journey better”.

As a matter of interest, how much would you have had to pay to reclaim your lost items if they were found?
