Abu Dhabi, UAE March 2-March 31 Abu Dhabi Festival 2014

This month-long arts and culture festival features Grammy-award winning musicians, including US soprano Renée Fleming, US jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, Russian-Icelandic conductor and pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy. The Dresden Philharmon­ic will also perform, and Lebanese pianist Michel Fadel will make his UAE debut on the final evening of the festival.

Washington DC, US April 26, 27 USA Science & Engineerin­g Festival

The country’s only national science event hopes to increase public awareness about the importance of science and to encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineerin­g and mathematic­s. Subjects including space exploratio­n, storm chasing, oceanograp­hy, the science of social networks are all up for discussion.

Berlin, Germany May 20-25 ILA Berlin Air Show

This internatio­nal exhibition on aviation and space travel will host more than 1,000 exhibitors from over 47 countries showcasing planes and aerospace technologi­es. The world’s oldest air show – it was establishe­d in 1909 – will look at the security situation 25 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall as part of its 2014 programme.
