Working Together for Meetings – The Seoul MICE Alliance

Just as any successful event is one in which everyone pulls together toward a common goal, so the same applies to a thriving meeting industry. Founded upon this philosophy, the Seoul MICE Alliance brings together the talents and services of the city’s meetings industry with the aim of creating better business events and tourism for all.

An initiative of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Convention Bureau, the SMA is comprised of 143 members of Seoul’s key industry stakeholders for business events. Event planners who utilise SMA member companies are able to receive benefits such as reduced rates, complimentary use of event spaces, free-of-charge promotional space, discounts on event registration, pick-up and set-down services, and site inspection support.

Spread across nine categories, the SMA includes: Convention Centres

Event planners will have all the space they need and the professional services to match at Seoul’s top convention centres. This includes Coex, which has been Seoul’s premier

meetings venue for over twenty years, and the host of large-scale events such as the 2010 G20 Seoul Summit, 2012 Nuclear Security Summit, and the 2014 International Congress of Mathematics.

Entertainment

Seoul is home to some of the finest nonverbal shows – many of which have been seen as far away as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Spanning heartfelt traditional Korean dramas, such as Jeongdong Theater’s Miso, to madcap slapstick comedies, like Haera Inc’s Fanta-Stick, SMA members shows can either be enjoyed at their native theatres or specially-customised for private events.

Hotels

Seoul’s SMA hotels consist of the city’s 5-star accommodations, as well as other high-quality hotels suitable for business events. Many of these properties are familiar and trusted global brands, such as the recently renovated Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas, the Grand Ambassador Seoul associated with Pullman, the InterContinental Seoul COEX and the Conrad Seoul in Seoul’s International Finance district.

Unique Venues

Taking full advantage of the city’s diverse natural landscape, from its picture-postcard mountains to its winding waterways, Seoul’s unique meeting venues can suit any special event. Examples include Samcheonggak, a traditional Korean-style mountainside retreat, the ultramodern 63 Convention Center overlooking the Hangang River, and the National Museum of Korea, offering a range of meeting spaces as well as Korean arts and crafts programmes.

Proffesional Conference Organiser (PCOs)

Seoul’s highly-developed meetings industry is filled with experienced professionals ready and able to provide a wide range of support for all manner of events. Working hard to ensure the success of many recent international events in Seoul, these top service providers also strive to meet International Association of Professional Convention Organisers (IAPCO) standards, such as affiliated PCOs: MECI, People-X, MCI Korea, INTERCOM, InSession International Convention Services, Inc., and EZ pmp Co., Ltd.

Transportation

Home to some of the most advanced transportation infrastructure anywhere in the world, Seoul keeps its business visitors on the move. SMA members include two major airlines: Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, a helicopter tours provider, and a wealth of ground-based transportation providers for everything from standard vehicles to chauffeur-driven limousines, such as MK Korea and Premium Pass International.

Within their numbers is PowerPT, the experts in professional PowerPoint presentation design and consulting.
