LUXURYLOOPHOLE
Reading “If it’s not nailed down…” [Derek Picot’s column in the September-October UK issue], I was reminded of a time many years ago when I was staying in a five-star hotel.
I asked if I could buy one of their luxury towelling robes and was told that it was not possible. I asked them what would happen if I took the one from my bedroom and they replied that they would send me a bill for it.
I asked them why it appeared that dishonesty rather than honesty was their preferred option and, in fairness, a very embarrassed manager said that they had never considered selling the robes, hence the only way to get a robe was the dishonest route.
