LORENZO the laser has settled into its new home quite well and the whole neighbourhood seems to be talking about it.

Eighteen months ago Jenny Van Leeuwen, owner of Physio by Jenny, took the plunge to invest in a $65,000 state of the art laser that was developed in Europe.

The laser uses a combination of two high-tech beams which can be used to treat conditions of inflammation, lymphoma and chronic pain. The laser can also be used to fast track the healing process of wounds.

Mrs Van Leeuwen said investing in the technology was well worth the risk. In 2017, the physiotherapist began incorporating the laser therapy in conjunction with her usual treatment methods and she said the results spoke volumes.

“Essentially what the laser does is it enhances a bodies capacity to behave normally because it stimulates the powerhouse of the cell,” she said.

“I’m getting fantastic results that are long-term across the board with things like chronic back and neck pain, plantar fasciitis.

“Also in conditions like rotator cuff tears where surgery is not an option, we are finding we are getting healing of the tears which is enhancing movement,” she said.

Mrs Van Leeuwen said there are only two other lasers of its kind within Queensland and both are situated in medical practices but her business is the only physiotherapy in all of Australia with the technology.

After seeing the faster and more efficient results for her clients, in the future, Mrs Van Leeuwen hopes to outsource the product to nearby pain clinics to help fast track the healing process for patients receiving treatments.

In October this year, Mrs Van Leeuwen will head off to Florence to participate in a master class about the different benefits and ways to use the laser.

She hopes to return with expert knowledge that will enable her to trial different techniques.

“There is heaps of research coming out of Italy in use of the laser and how we can fine-tune it to operate with even better results,” she said.

“It has a bionic head and a hand-held device on the same machine, so I could have the bionic head scanning and treating someone’s back and at the same time I could be using the hand-held laser to treat the trigger points down someone’s leg.”
